Understanding the capability of the supply base helps Boeing with needed communication and learning strategies. The Model Based Engineering (MBE) supplier capability assessment tool allows us to assess a supplier’s digital collaboration capabilities.

The assessment has two different questionnaires; one for build-to-model suppliers and a second for suppliers with design authority. The assessment questions consider experience, readiness, and willingness to invest in areas such as Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), product design, Model Based Engineering (MBE), collaboration tools and also adoption of interoperability standards.

The assessment has a focus on capabilities in domains of interest including:

• Spatial (structures and composites models)
• Model Based Systems Engineering (architecture, requirements and math models)
